Welcome to LansingIowa.org

This site has been created to share a collection of photos that were taken in and around Lansing, Iowa. The photos were taken from the late 1800s to the early 1900s, by a photographer who established a studio on Main Street, Lansing and later another photographer who took over his business. The photographers' work was rediscovered in the attic of a building that had served as the studio. The prints you see on this site were made from glass negatives that miraculously survived the elements, a fire that gutted the building, and the water used to extinguish it.

There are many more negatives that have yet to be reprinted. We hope to add them to the site soon so please return often to see new additions.

Photos are copyrighted by their owners but feel welcome to use them for non-commercial purposes. To use photos for profit or for commercial purposes, please contact us.

We welcome any feedback that can help to identify people and places in the photos. To contribute information please contact us by email.

Photos are in sessions as per when they were added to the site. Each session section has thumbnail sized photos on the left that link to a larger picture that will display on the right.

Also of interest; we have scanned a 60-page magazine printed in 1931 to commemorate the completion of the Black Hawk Bridge. If you wish to download it in PDF format click here. Caution: it is a 17MB file and will take a long time to download unless you have a high speed connection.
